Michelangelo History was a painter, sculptor, architect and poet and one of the great Italian Renaissance artists.
Michelangelo Buonarroti was born on March 6, 1475 in Caprese near Florence (Italy), where his father was a local magistrate. A few weeks after birth the family moved to Florence. In 1488, Michelangelo was learning painter Domenico Ghirlandaio. Then in the household of Lorenzo de 'Medici, the patron of the arts in Florence.
After the Medici were expelled from Florence, Michelangelo to Bologna and then in 1496, Rome. His great works of the image of the early years. His "Pietà" (1497) his name and he returned to Florence a famous sculptor. Here he wrote his "David" (1501-1504).
1505 Pope Julius II summoned Michelangelo to Rome and ordered that his tomb of Julius design. Due to the friction between Julius and Michelangelo, the artist and the many other demands on time, the project was never completed, but does not produce sculpture of Moses by Michelangelo's tomb.
Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling for the next big in the Vatican (1508-1512). It was at once recognized as a work of art by Michelangelo, and from then on was considered the greatest living artist in Italy.
The new Pope Leo X then commissioned Michelangelo the facade of the church of San Lorenzo in Florence repair. The plan was eventually abandoned, but it started with Michelangelo, the architect of activity. Michelangelo designed the monument to Giuliano and Lorenzo de 'Medici in the Medici Chapel, San Lorenzo.
1534, Michelangelo returned to Rome, where he ordered "The Last Judgement" the altar wall of the Sistine Chapel (1537-1541) painting. Since 1546, he was still active as an architect, in particular the large church of St. Peter. He died in Rome on February 18, 1564
